These terms govern your use of the Trunkbase desktop application ("the App") and this website ("the Site"), together "Trunkbase." By downloading, installing, or using Trunkbase, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use it.
1. Definitions
- "Trunkbase," "we," "us" — the provider of the App and Site.
- "You" — the individual or organization using Trunkbase.
- "Vault" — the files, notes, and index Trunkbase creates and stores on your own device.
- "Your Content" — the documents you process and everything derived from them in your Vault.
2. License to use the App
Trunkbase grants you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use the App on devices you control, for personal or internal business purposes, subject to these terms. The App is provided free of charge; we may introduce paid features in the future, which would be described at the point of purchase.
3. Restrictions
You agree not to:
- reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract source code except to the extent this restriction is prohibited by applicable law;
- resell, sublicense, or redistribute the App as your own product;
- remove or alter any proprietary notices;
- use Trunkbase to violate the law or infringe the rights of others.
4. Your Content and data
You own Your Content. Trunkbase is local-first: Your Content stays on your device and we neither receive nor claim any rights to it. You are responsible for your Vault, including backups, and for having the rights to process the documents you add to it.
5. Third-party services
Trunkbase can optionally connect to third-party AI providers and other services (for example over MCP). Your use of those services is governed by their terms and privacy policies, and you are responsible for any accounts, keys, fees, or data you send to them. We are not responsible for third-party services and provide no warranty for them.
6. Your responsibilities
- Keep your device, operating system, and any provider credentials secure.
- Ensure your use of Trunkbase and Your Content complies with applicable laws and any obligations you owe others.
- Maintain your own backups of your Vault.
7. Intellectual property
The App, the Site, and all associated software, trademarks, and design are owned by Trunkbase and its licensors and are protected by intellectual-property laws. Except for the license in Section 2, these terms grant you no rights in our intellectual property.
8. Feedback
If you send us feedback or suggestions, you grant us a perpetual, worldwide, royalty-free license to use them to improve Trunkbase, without obligation to you.
9. Disclaimer of warranties
Trunkbase is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that Trunkbase will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that parsing or AI output will be accurate or complete. You are responsible for verifying results before relying on them.
10. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Trunkbase and its contributors will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or exemplary damages, or for any loss of data, profits, or goodwill, arising out of or related to your use of Trunkbase. Because the App is provided free of charge, our total aggregate liability for any claim relating to Trunkbase will not exceed one hundred U.S. dollars (US $100).
11. Acceptable use, high-risk activities, and assumption of risk
Trunkbase's core function is the local decomposition and organization of your documents into notes, an index, and a knowledge graph. It is a general-purpose productivity tool and is not designed, tested, or certified for high-risk or safety-critical use.
Assumption of risk. You are solely responsible for how you use Trunkbase and for any decision, action, or outcome based on its output. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Trunkbase and its contributors are not liable for any outcome of your use that falls outside the core function of data decomposition — including, without limitation, personal injury, loss of life, or damage to property. You use Trunkbase at your own risk and must independently verify its output before relying on it for any consequential purpose.
Prohibited uses. You must not use Trunkbase to plan, support, facilitate, or carry out any unlawful, violent, dangerous, or hazardous activity. We unequivocally condemn and prohibit the use of Trunkbase for criminal acts, violence, warfare, or anything that endangers people, animals, or the environment.
12. Updates and changes
We may release updates to the App and may modify or discontinue features over time. We may also update these terms; when we do, we'll revise the effective date above, and your continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
13. Termination
You may stop using Trunkbase and uninstall the App at any time; your Vault remains yours. We may suspend or terminate your license if you materially breach these terms. Sections that by their nature should survive termination — including Your Content ownership, intellectual property, disclaimers, acceptable use and assumption of risk, and limitation of liability — will survive.
14. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which Trunkbase is established, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. The courts of that jurisdiction will have exclusive authority over any dispute, unless applicable law requires otherwise.
15. Miscellaneous
These terms are the entire agreement between you and Trunkbase regarding its use and supersede any prior understanding. If any provision is held unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver.
